Experience You Can Rely On Achieving Your Goals

Framingham Estate Planning Lawyer

No one can predict the future. While you may not need estate planning documents for many, many years, having them in place makes sure that your assets and loved ones are protected in the event that you cannot communicate your wishes yourself.

At my Framingham, Massachusetts, law firm, I focus on meeting the estate planning needs of individuals and families throughout the Western suburbs of Boston and Cape Cod. I give valuable estate planning advice at fair and reasonable fees — the same way I have been doing things for 32 years.

Creation of a Complete and Effective Estate Plan

A complete estate plan is more than just having a will. Depending on your needs, you may need to consider a series of documents that protect your interests if you become sick or pass away. Your estate plan may include any of the documents listed below:

  • Wills: A will is a document that protects your loved ones and distributes your assets after you pass away. In your will, you can name the personal representative who will distribute your assets. You can also name a guardian for your minor children and create a trust that will help to support them.
  • Trusts (including testamentary and living trusts): Trusts can be created during your lifetime to help manage assets effectively. After you pass away, a trust can be an important tool to minimizing estate taxes, protecting assets and avoiding the probate process.
  • Living wills/health care directives: These estate planning documents can help your loved ones make decisions about the care you receive in the event that you are unable to communicate your wishes yourself. You may appoint someone or several people to make decisions for you and provide guidance as to what those decisions should be.
  • Powers of attorney: Powers of attorney give someone you trust the authority to manage your finances in the event that you are unable to do so.

We also assist clients who face the incapacity of a family member, counseling them regarding the process of establishing guardianships and conservatorships. When appropriate, we prepare health care proxies, durable powers of attorney and other relevant documents.
